The Sandiganbayan has acquitted ex-Senate president and chief presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, his former chief of staff Atty. Gigi Reyes, and businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles in the P172-million plunder case connected with the pork barrel scam.
The three were acquitted due to the prosecution’s failure to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The plunder case of Enrile, Reyes and Napoles had been pending for 10 years.
“Pinapasalamatan ko yung mga mahistrado for rendering justice to all of us,” Enrile told reporters.
“I knew all along that I will be acquitted because we have not done anything in this case. And I hope the people who filed those cases against us will examine their conscience,” he also said.
