Delay in printing driver’s licenses to be resolved by Nov.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has assured that the delay in printing driver’s licenses will be resolved by November.

This assurance came from Valenzuela City Rep. Eric Martinez, who sponsored the House Plenary discussion on the 2025 budget for the Department of Transportation (DoTr), under which the LTO falls. According to Martinez, the delay in license printing is due to issues with the “engravers.”

“Just for the record, we have enough plastic cards, but the printing has been the problem. By sometime in November, we should be able to normalize things,” Martinez explained during the budget deliberations in the House plenary.

In April, the LTO began issuing plastic cards to those who were initially given paper driver’s licenses. Martinez asserted that by November, the process for motorists to obtain licenses will be normal, and paper licenses will no longer be issued.

Martinez also mentioned that those who have not yet received their plastic driver’s licenses do not need to go to the LTO office,  instead, they can have them sent via courier.

“They have a hotline number to call. They can contact the hotline, provide the details of their paper license, and they will receive a plastic card through a courier,” added Martinez.

Meanwhile, 1-Rider Partylist Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez proposed to the LTO that instead of spending a large amount on plastic driver’s licenses, they should switch to electronic licenses.

Martinez supported this idea, stating that the agency could save P250 million each year by using a digital version of the license.
