Malacañang has branded as selfish the call of former president Rodrigo Duterte to overthrow President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“No motive is more selfish than calling for a sitting president to be overthrown so that your daughter (Vice President Sara Duterte) can take over,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said in a statement on Tuesday.

“And he (Duterte) will go to great and evil lengths, such as insulting our professional Armed Forces by asking them to betray their oath, for his plan to succeed,” he said

Bersamin expressed surprise at the former president’s call for the military to launch a coup against the Marcos administration. He called on the ex-Philippine leader to follow the constitution.

He said the administration will continue fulfilling its duty to govern and manage the country’s affairs in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law.

In a late Monday press conference, the former president called on the Armed Forces to reconsider their support for the present administration.
