Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla reasserted that the Philippines is no place for foreign fugitives.
This, after the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) arrested and blacklisted a Japanese national wanted abroad for scamming a compatriot approximately 3-million yen.
The Justice Secretary commended the BI for their swift and decisive action which led to the arrest and soon repatriation of the Japanese fugitive.
By virtue of a standing court order in Omiya, Japan, the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) managed to track down the Japanese fraudster identified as Yokota Tetsuya in Binondo, Manila last 02 January 2025.
Reports reveal that Tetsuya and his accomplices conned a fellow Japanese by making a fraudulent call about the right to enter a nursing home which duped the latter into giving 2.75-million yen.
“PH is no haven for international criminals, this is my final warning to undesirable aliens who may attempt to push their luck in our country, you have no place here,” Secretary Remulla underscored.
“We vow to intensify our border control efforts this year so expect stricter measures to be imposed in all entry and exit points throughout the country,” the Secretary added.
