The side KFC fans have been rooting for is coming home.
On Aug. 11, the fast-food chain announced that after five years, it’s finally bringing back its crispy Potato Wedges.
Starting Aug. 18, the beloved spuds will hit menus nationwide once again, and will be joined by the return of Hot & Spicy Wings. Both have been revived after what the chain calls “relentless fan demand.”
“Wedge-lovers, we heard you — and we agree it’s been five long years without wedges. But the wait is over,” Catherine Tan-Gillespie, president of KFC U.S., said in the company’s press release.
First introduced in the mid-1990s, KFC’s thick-cut Potato Wedges became a menu item favorite, earning what the company described as a “cult status in the late 1990s and early 2000s.” The company discontinued the wedges in 2020, much to fans’ displeasure.
Now, KFC will embrace nostalgia and lean into customer feedback as part of what it calls its “Kentucky Fried Comeback,” the company’s “bold, brand-wide rally to give people more reasons to fall in love with” KFC once more.
Fans can order wedges on their own, swap them in for any side or try them in the new Wings & Wedges Combo, paired with six wings and a medium drink.
Wedges or Fries, You Can Have It All
For customers sweating over the fate of KFC’s other potato side, rest easy. The chain says its Secret Recipe Fries are staying put. Fries and wedges will coexist on the menu.
Limited-Time Back-To-School Deals
Right on time for football season and the start of the school year, KFC will launch a lineup of deals starting Aug. 18, including:
- $3.99 KFC Chicken Sandwich: includes a chicken breast filet topped with a toasted brioche bun, pickles and the Colonel’s real mayo or spicy mayo
- $20 Wings & Wedges Fan Favorites Box: 10 Hot & Spicy Wings, 12 KFC Chicken Nuggets, Potato Wedges, four biscuits and four dipping sauces
- 20 Wings for $20: Starting Sept. 4, customers can access KFC’s digital exclusive offer for 20 Hot & Spicy Wings and four dipping sauces of their choice for $20
KFC will also continue its popular $10 Tuesdays tradition, which means:
- Customers can choose from eight pieces of classic fried chicken or eight Original Recipe® Tenders for just $10 on Tuesday.
